Career paths aren’t linear progressions. They’re complex graphs of relationships, often invisible until you step back and map them. Each node represents not just a job or a skill, but a person who took a chance, offered guidance, or simply showed up at the right moment.
Don’t just resist cynicism – fight it actively. Fight it in yourself, for this ungainly beast lies dormant in each of us, and counter it in those you love and engage with, by modeling its opposite. Cynicism often masquerades as nobler faculties and dispositions, but is categorically inferior. Unlike that great Rilkean life-expanding doubt, it is a contracting force.
Every day I try to rediscover a way to observe the world as through the eyes of a child, so I enjoy knowing how children see my world. When I was a child I wanted to be an architect, and now that I am an architect I would sometimes like to be a child again.
