TrackNotes

This project came out of a dissatisfaction with the tools for music producers:

  • The existing tools (Dropbox, Highnote, Boombox) focused on thirsty young producers who wanted to "make it big".
  • No one spoke to music makers who were motivated to create for the love of creating, (rather than trying to break into the music business and 'make it big').
  • The existing tools had huge feature bloat making the core task of "upload music, listen to it and make notes" extremely hard to do.
  • No one was designing a space for artists to reflect, just a place for them to sell.

I thought there was an opportunity to speak very clearly to a targeted niche who wanted a calm place to review their music by themselves instead of submitting it to algorithms or pay to play review sites.

Style

Analysing the tools, it was obvious there was a prevailing style:

I wanted to avoid that style and do something more organic, more human and more calm. Something that aligned with the overall message that this was a tool to get away from the frenzied barrage of algorithms, engagement and 'collaboration' and closer to the simple of act of creating, listening and reflecting.

A confluence of technology

I probably wouldnt have attempted this project without two things:

  1. AI image generation was interesting enough to play around with and get 'good enough' art directed images. I fell in love with tools like Visual Electric.
  2. AI assisted development environments like Replit. Letting me quickly create and deploy as well as getting AI assistance meant this idea was rapidly developed (after more than a few attempts 😂)
